Title: What Makes Heaven Rejoice
Scripture: In Luke 15:7 Jesus said,
“There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
Main Idea: God is not the only one rejoicing when someone repents and surrenders to God with faith in Christ. All the righteous also rejoice.
More: Jesus knows everything there is to know about heaven. He is eternal. He has been in union with God the Father always, and through him God created heaven and all the angels. He came from heaven to become a man 2,000 years ago. In this verse he gives us a glimpse into what heaven is like. First we learn that everyone in heaven—the angels and the righteous people who have died and gone to heaven and God himself—are aware when a sinner repents and comes to God.
Second we learn that everyone celebrates this conversion. It’s big news. It’s great news. What that means for us is, we too should celebrate conversions and dedicate ourselves to helping others come to repentance. Soul winners are joyful. They are doing work that endures forever and matters infinitely.
Faith and Worship Declarations: I rejoice in the repentance of sinners. O Lord, I praise you that you are the Savior of the world and that you include me in this work of bringing others to repentance.
