Title: The Birth Pangs of Coming Joy
Scripture: In John 16:20–22, as the time neared for his death, Jesus told his disciples,
“You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. 21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.”
Main Idea: Living in this world is a passage through sorrow into ultimate joy, like giving birth to a baby.
More: Notice two key truths in these verses. First, sorrow can turn to joy. When you know Jesus, the hope for coming joy is always there. Second, the joy you have when you see Jesus in the flesh someday is a joy that no one will able to take from you. You will have permanent happiness.
Faith and Worship Declarations: Lord, I praise you that you are alive and that seeing you is ultimate joy. You will turn my sorrow into joy. Someday I will see you and rejoice like never before.
