Title: Rejoicing in Heavenly Rewards
Scripture: In Luke 6:22–23 Jesus says,
“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.”
Main Idea: Believers can rejoice now in future rewards.
For Hungry Readers: Probably you have seen sporting events in which a tense, closely contested event turned in one team’s favor right at the end, and at that moment the winners cannot help but jump in the air for joy. Leaping for joy is the ultimate joy. Jesus says that is how a Christian should feel about persecution for his sake. God will reward us for it in enormous measure. We can anticipate that reward now and rejoice exceedingly.
We can rejoice now for rewards that await us in heaven for any good we have done, not just for suffering bad experiences like persecution.
Faith and Worship Declarations: I praise you, O God, that you reward your people for every good thing we do. I rejoice today that I have great rewards awaiting me on the day of judgment.
