Title: Joy in God’s Presence

Scripture: Psalm 16:11

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Main Idea: The greatest joy a human can experience is to be in God’s presence.

For Hungry Readers: This is not an accident, because God made us for this purpose. We were designed to find our joy in knowing God and being with him. Therefore we can look forward to eternal joy in God’s kingdom, after our lives in this fallen world end.

We can experience a foreshadowing of the joy of actually being with God by learning to practice the presence of God in daily life, which involves regular worship, giving thanks for God’s goodness and help, surrender to his purposes, trust in God to fulfill his Word, depending on him by praying about all we do, and dedicating our pursuits to God’s glory.

This is an important Scripture for seeing that God is for joy and for pure pleasure. Pleasure and joy are related. We find joy with God when we find pleasure in God and his words, works, character, and nature.

Faith Declarations: I have great joy because I live in God’s presence continually through worship, thanksgiving, surrender, trust, dependence in prayer, and dedicating all I do to God’s glory. I enjoy who God is and what God does and all God says. God is life’s greatest pleasure.
