Day 40 — Thursday, April 13th
Title: Loved like Jesus
Scripture: John 17:23
Shortly before Jesus was arrested, in his extended prayer recorded in John 17 he prayed for all who would eventually believe in him. He asked the Father that his followers would
“become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”
Main Idea: The Father loves every Christian as he loves Jesus.
For Hungry Readers: This truth is hard to believe. How could the Father feel about us the way he feels about Jesus, the unique, perfect Son whom he has loved through eternity? The Father loves us this much because we really are in Christ, united with him, clothed with him, identified with him. Are we as worthy of love as Jesus? In ourselves, no. But in Christ, yes.
So now, just as God said at Christ’s baptism, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Mat. 3:17), so he says of you. His smile is over your life. His favor is upon you because of Jesus. You don’t have to earn God’s favor, for you have it through faith in Jesus.
Faith Declarations: My Father in heaven loves me just as much as he loves his Son Jesus.
This brings to a close the daily devotionals on 40 Days of Favor. But God’s favor toward you will endure forever!
