Day 39 — Wednesday, April 12th
Title: The Path of Favor
Scripture: Psalm 1:1–3
“1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” (ESV, italics added)
Main Idea: God’s favor rests on those who walk in the counsel of his Word, rather than in the counsel of the wicked.
For Hungry Readers: Those who walk in God’s counsel prosper in all their ways because they do the will of God, and God’s will is blessed. God’s will is firm and secure. It is right and true. It is wise and good. God’s will is usually not the way of this world, so we cannot learn it from the wicked; we must learn it through diligent absorption of God’s Word.
One practical application of this principle is how we spend our free time. Watching most popular movies and television programs amounts to walking in the counsel of the wicked, standing in the way of sinners, and sitting with scoffers. Most (not all) popular media trains people to think and speak and act in godless ways. The Christian who wants to live under God’s blessing will spend time in God’s Word instead of this world’s corrupt media.
Faith Declarations: I walk in the counsel of God’s Word, and therefore I will prosper in all I do.
