Day 24 — Tuesday, March 28th
Title: The Best
Scripture: Psalm 81:16 (NIV)
“You would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
Main Idea: God is pleased to give you the finest, the sweetest, the best.
For Hungry Readers: Writing about this verse is a challenge because as a teacher I must say what God says and be perfectly faithful to his Word, and at the same time I am aware that Scriptures like this have been abused by some who are greedy and who wrongly believe that “godliness is a means of gain” (1 Timothy 6:5). They fall into temptation because they wrongly “desire to be rich” (1 Timothy 6:9). They ignore the fact that “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils” (1 Timothy 6:10). They are not content with God’s provision for their needs.
Nevertheless, with those warnings in mind, we must still acknowledge what Psalm 81:16 says, that God in his favor is so generous that he wants the best for us. He is not stingy. We should be content with the provision of our needs, but if God gives us more, that is not surprising because that is his generous heart. We should be grateful and steward it and enjoy it and be generous with it. (See 1 Timothy 6)
We should also remember that while the material things of this world are good, the spiritual things of the kingdom of God are better. We can pursue spiritual blessings without reservation. God is pleased to feed you with the finest of spiritual wheat. With spiritual honey he would satisfy you.
Faith Declarations: God will give me his best. God will give me his finest. God will give me his sweetest. For God has favor toward me.
